Order Communications, Electronic Prescribing, and Results Reporting  Electronic Prescribing
Why use two separate solutions to place orders when you can use just one?

MEDITECH enables Electronic Prescribing and Order Communications from a single, central location.

MEDITECH’s user-friendly and workflow-driven solutions allow consultants and care providers to enter individual or multi-disciplinary order sets. Prescriptions are seamlessly communicated to Clinical Pharmacy and Stock Control for fulfilment; other orders, such as diagnostic exams and pathology requests, are communicated in real time to the receiving ancillary department’s desktop. Consultants can easily cancel, edit, renew, repeat, or hold orders at any time.

From the ordering screen, providers can identify adverse reactions, view patient records, access the latest evidence-based medicine, and calculate drug dosages based on user-defined variables. MEDITECH equips your staff with the latest clinical decision support tools, promoting patient safety and optimal care by helping to reduce medical errors. Decision support tools include checks for adverse interactions or allergies with regard to food, drugs, disease contraindications, or IV incompatibilities; redundant or duplicate orders; and dosage size. A rules engine suggests associated tests, pushes alerts, and generates reminders at the time of ordering--thus helping consultants to adjust their orders accordingly.

Consultants also have the flexibility to create and save common order sets and favourite prescription lists based on their own ordering styles and preferences. It’s also easy to add or remove medications and procedures based on ordering frequency. What’s more, consultants can electronically sign their own orders using a personal identification number.

Our integrated Electronic Prescribing and Order Communications functionality also comes equipped with results reporting capabilities. Consultants are alerted to real-time results through the Consultant Desktop, a roles-based worklist where consultants can access and manage their entire patient caseload. The Desktop broadcasts real-time results to care providers, with different colours notifying them of any new or abnormal results.

Consultant Documentation and Workload Management
Document patient care, prescribe medications, and request therapies and procedures all in one place, with MEDITECH’s Consultant Care Manager.

Consultants and doctors can manage tasks and notifications related to results, consults, nursing notes, and admission/discharge/transfer activity--all from one central desktop portal. Inpatient and outpatient rounding lists, the Physician on a tabletA&E tracker, and office schedules are also just a click away. Consultants can select a patient and instantly manage orders, document care, and electronically sign orders and reports, all without leaving their desktops.

Consultants can document care provided in the inpatient and outpatient settings through customisable documentation templates. Our Consultant Documentation component includes a combination of point-and-click queries, annotated images, and free text fields—helping consultants to document with greater efficiency. They even have the option to pull in vital signs and test results captured elsewhere in the system.Benefits of our Consultant Documentation include:

 • Templated documentation (based on preference, disease state, and protocols)
 • Formatted data
 • Automated discharge summaries
 • Passive coding
 • Voice recognition.

Consultant Care Manager also includes integrated Order Communications and Electronic Prescribing functionality. User-friendly and workflow-driven, consultants and other care providers can place all order types from a single screen. Due to the integration of the MEDITECH’s system orders, requests and prescriptions are communicated electronically to the appropriate ancillary department or clinicians desktop.

Equipped with the latest clinical decision support tools, e-Prescribing and Order Communications promotes patient safety, optimal care, and profitability by helping to reduce medical errors. Decision support capabilities include checks for adverse interactions or allergies with regard to food, drugs, disease contraindications, or IV incompatibilities; redundant or duplicate orders; and dosage size. A rules engine pushes suggestions, alerts, and reminders at the time of ordering, helping providers to adjust their orders accordingly.

Nursing, Critical Care, and Allied Health Services
Deliver quality care at the patient’s bedside with MEDITECH’s Patient Care and Patient Safety solution.

Nurses working on the ward, as well as in Critical Care can use handheld and stationary point-of-care devices to document multidisciplinary care plans Nursing with patient and critical pathways. Your organisation can tailor status boards to either a nurse or a unique ward to provide them with a streamlined view of their patients, notifications, results, and tasks. Customisable best practice documentation templates and worklists based on medical condition will meet the needs of your nursing staff.

Directly from the Status Board, nurses can access the electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) as a central location for medication review and administrations. Complete integration of MEDITECH’s Electronic Prescribing, Pharmacy, and Patient Care and Patient Safety solutions enables both a centralised allergy record and clinical decision support, ensuring safe medication administration. The eMAR works seamlessly with Bedside Verification for positive patient identification at the bedside via wristband scanning.  Bedside Verification also ensures medication compatibility.

MEDITECH’s EPR interfaces with patient monitors to streamline workflow and improve the quality of patient care. Your organisation can define which monitor data flows to the Electronic Patiet Record (EPR), how the information appears to clinicians, and the frequency with which the system updates the information. For example, monitor interfaces retrieve data from hemodynamic and ventilator monitoring devices,  transmitting the data to the assessments for review and manipulation. Data then flows directly into the EPR for permanent storage.

Maternity Service
MEDITECH’s Patient Care and Patient Safety solution is designed to address the needs of all patient care areas, including Maternity.
Nurse bedside with pregnant patient
We provide many expert-reviewed nursing assessments and care plans within the standard software. In addition, MEDITECH provides tools to create as many multidisciplinary care plans and critical pathways as necessary to capture antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal data. Capture patient care information and automatically share it with authorised consultants and care providers across your Trust.

MEDITECH’s EPR automatically links newborns’ charts with those of their mothers. Shared information, such as demographic data and prenatal history, populates the newborn record automatically. MEDITECH also includes a NHS Number for Babies (NN4B) interface.

Patient and Consumer Health Portal
Provide your patients with the option to actively manage their own care with MEDITECH’s Patient and Consumer Health Portal. Look beyond standard paper letters and phone calls by empowering your patients to interact with you and their electronic records online.

The Portal is fully integrated with the MEDITECH Electronic Patient Record (EPR), helping patients reach and react to timely information faster. Features allow patients to:

 • Request appointments
 • Pre-register for scheduled appointments
 • Exchange messages with consultants
 • View laboratory results and radiology reports
 • See allergies and conditions
 • Review medications
 • Request prescription renewals
 • Access visit history.

Patients have web-based access to the Portal at any time, from virtually anywhere. You can also grant authorised family members, guardians, and caregivers access to a patient’s Portal to help them oversee their care. As data protection is essential,  numerous security elements are inherent. For example, the Portal prevents caching of data on the client, uses HASH encryption for passwords, and even includes a timeout feature.

The Patient and Consumer Health Portal will ultimately make safe, immediate access to health information a reality for your patients.
