Choose and Book Integration

Streamline your patient scheduling and minimise the need for MPI maintenance with MEDITECH’s Patient Administration System (PAS). The included NHS Stethoscope on keyboard and calendarChoose and Book (CaB) integration gives you the tools to accomplish this and more.

Accessibility is the name of the game when it comes to patient scheduling. With a referral from his or her GP, a patient can select your organisation and consultant from the national listing, and then book an appointment in an open time slot that fits his or her own schedule--all directly from the NHS Choose and Book website.

Your staff and organisation benefit from the efficiency that our Choose and Book integration delivers. During booking, MEDITECH automatically populates screens with demographics (e.g. date of birth, NHS number) captured from the NHS Personal Demographics Service (PDS) and brought in through the Choose and Book integration. Configurable Choose and Book settings include: source of referral, reason for referral, patient category, short notice reason, cancel reason, consultation medium (e.g. in person or telephone), and Directory of Services information.

18 Week Pathway and Referral Tracking

Keep your patients’ pathways on track and avoid penalties using MEDITECH’s integrated pathway management tools. From referral to discharge, MEDITECH’s Patient Administration System (PAS) accurately tracks and records RTT pathway activity, minding the 18-week clock automatically. Potential breaches are indicated in red, alerting staff when action is required.

Detailed pathway information can be retrieved automatically through an included Choose and Book interface or entered manually. A dedicated Pathway Analysis screen is also included. Your staff can immediately access a detailed report of all patients in danger of breach. Users can also specify a date for the report, allowing for retrospective pathway status evaluation.

Consultants and other care providers can instantly access patient pathway information through integration with the MEDITECH Electronic Patient Record (EPR), resulting in safer, more informed clinical decisions. What's more, consultant documentation automatically updates patient pathways in real time, without disrupting workflow.

Scheduling / Registration

Schedule patients and manage your resources with MEDITECH’s Patient Administration System (PAS)--an integrated solution that acts as both a centralised appointment book and a decentralised departmental diary, enabling you to extend scheduling across your network. Embedded registration functionality creates a smooth experience for patients and staff alike. From a single portal, staff can schedule patient appointments, manage available appointment resources, pre-register or check in patients, and update patient demographics.

Withthe addition of a third-party vendor interface, healthcare organisations can provide patients the convenience of registration kiosks. Patients can automatically check in, view their appointment information, and sign consent forms.

MEDITECH also includes certified NHS Choose and Book integration. Your organisation can allocate which time slots are available for Choose and Book, keeping you in control of your diary management. Providers can book appointments for patients on the Choose and Book website. In addition, patients with a referral can choose to book their own appointments, selecting a consultant and an available time slot directly through the NHS website. Consultants can easily accept, decline, or reassign appointments taken from Choose and Book.

Keep an eye on patient waitlists and patient pathways, to ensure you meet both national and locally defined RTT targets. Staff can monitor and prioritise patients awaiting appointments, and book them directly from the waitlist.

System integration allows staff to scan documents, such as GP referral letters, attaching them to the patient chart during scheduling or registration.

Bed Management

Surveil and manage ward occupancy across your Trust with MEDITECH’s Bed Management. A component of our Patient Administration System (PAS), Bed Management includes the functionality you need to manage everyday ward activity from a global perspective, all the way down to the individual patient. Quickly reconfigure the Bed Management display to optimise current bed assignments, or to provide a view based on future bookings.Hospital beds

What’s more, Bed Management tools are collected for you on a single screen, eliminating unnecessary clicks. From this screen, authorised staff can instantly assess the occupancy and status of the beds within a specific area. Colour-coding makes it easy to identify available beds, occupied beds by patient gender, blocked beds for construction or maintenance, and beds in need of cleaning. Sort beds by location, service, or room; and then drill down to view additional patient- and room-specific data.

Manage your patient population efficiently with integrated bed reservation, bed request, transport, pending discharge, and housekeeping routines. Bed management data refreshes automatically, so users are always working with the most up-to-the-minute, real-time data.

While stored in the Patient Administration System (PAS), Bed Management data is also embedded throughout the Electronic Patient Record (EPR), making it accessible system-wide. This integration puts authorised users only a click away from the patient’s clinical EPR when assigning or managing beds.

Medical Records and Master Patient Index

Manage your patient population with MEDITECH’s Medical Records and Master Patient Index (MPI). A component of our Patient Administration System (PAS), the MPI houses the personal and permanent details captured for each patient during scheduling and registration. An MPI file is created Stethoscope on laptopautomatically for every new patient entered into the system.

The PAS also includes functionality for editing, merging, unmerging, and tracking case notes. Patient records are secured, with multiple features available to protect privacy. For example, patients’ records can be marked as confidential or VIP in the system, while specific visits can be sealed in the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).

Multi-facility organisations enjoy the same streamlined workflow and system integration as single-facility organisations. While all can share a single database of case notes, each facility also maintains separate patient numbering schemes, utilising a one or two-letter prefix to differentiate one from another. Facility-specific numbers for a single patient point to just one record, eliminating confusion or duplicate patients.

You can track and manage your data through a series of standard reports, including but not limited to:

 • Delete and restore activity logs
 • Merged and unmerged account logs
 • Incomplete record reports
 • Sealed and unsealed patient account lists.

You can also create your own reports using our Report Designer, as well as embedded Compiled Reports functionality. Compiled Reports allow authorised users to pull statistical or patient information from throughout the software onto a single report, to be run once or continually.

Clinical Coding

Calculate HRGs accurately, complete patient abstracts, and analyse case mix management at your organisation, with MEDITECH’s Clinical Coding tools. An integrated component of our Patient Administration System (PAS), Clinical Coding provides an easy method of capturing and reporting patient data from across the MEDITECH system, including the integrated Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and departmental applications.

Clinical Coding relies on a core set of reference tables. Clinical Coding includes tables for:

 • Alternate description groups
 • Diagnosis codes
 • Diagnosis alternate description
 • Diagnosis confidential data flags
 • HRG codes
 • HRG grouper versions
 • Procedure codes
 • Procedure alternate description
 • Procedure confidential data flags.

Document Management

Purge unwanted paper case notes, free up valuable storage, and simplify your workflow with electronic Document Management. MEDITECH’s Patient Administration System (PAS) includes Document Management functionality that allows you to scan all forms of paper documents (e.g. legal forms, identification cards) and store them as components of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR). You benefit from:

 • Potential to achieve a paperless environment
 • Electronic forms management
 • Patient Electronic Signature capability
 • Portable EPR
 • More complete and accurate case notes and clinical coding.

Whether scanning paper documents or electronically importing historical data from other vendor systems, you can instantly access all documents through a link in the patient’s Electronic Patient Record, with no additional sign-on required. Authorised staff can also easily export the patient’s eChart into a complete and portable format as needed.
