Accident and Emergency

Minimise wait times and help your department’s staff to receive, manage, document, and discharge patients more efficiently with MEDITECH’s Accident & Emergency (A&E) solution.

Using a streamlined reception routine, triage nurses can initiate prompt treatment by recording only a minimum amount of data and assigning priority. EMT Entry of a chief complaint or protocol automatically triggers associated order sets, assessments, and clinical documentation. A configurable A&E Tracker provides a single screen where all staff can access the care functions relevant to their jobs. The Tracker offers easy navigation and colour coding to alert clinicians of new or abnormal results.

Integrated e-prescribing and order communication capabilities enable consultants to enter electronic requests for medications, procedures, and other items through a single routine. Drug and allergy interaction checking, drug dosage calculations, and duplicate therapy checks provide added clinical decision support through integration with Pharmacy. Medication reconciliation capabilities and an electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) are also included to ensure safe medication prescribing and administration.

Accident & Emergency documentation tools match the workflows of your nurses and consultants. Neatly organised nursing assessments offer charting by exception and automatic calculation of data scores. Nurses can also review vital signs obtained from patient monitors and automatically include these vitals in assessment documentation. Consultant documentation templates feature point and click queries, annotated images, and free text entry. Providers can also automatically retrieve vital signs and test results from the MEDITECH Electronic Patient Record (EPR). Voice recognition is available through integration with Dragon software from Nuance.

An advanced Discharge/Departure routine automatically prints follow-up reminders, referrals, forms, medication lists, drug monographs, and TTOs. Clinicians can also mark and manage A&E patients’ follow-up.

Central Stock Management

Increase revenues, reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and shift your focus from paperwork to patients, all through MEDITECH’s Central Stock SuppliesManagement. Bar code scanning automatically tracks inventory as it is used and replenished, helping you keep your inventory counts accurate and your supply rooms stocked.

Key features provide the tools necessary to:

 • Issue, transfer, return, and adjust stock items
 • Generate inventory requisitions and track their activity
 • Track patient issues
 • Maintain surgical case carts.

A series of inventory control features supply a record of inventory activity (e.g. issues, returns, adjustments, transfers, and purchase order history) and provide both reporting and inquiry capabilities to help monitor stock levels.

The system supports an unlimited number of inventories and accommodates:
 • Replenishments for par level inventories
 • Surgical case carts with patient charging capabilities
 • Tracking of transfers from bulk storage by item number, stock number, description, or name
 • Online inquiries that display information on:

         • receipts

         • adjustments
         • transfers
         • current inventory breakdowns
         • issues
         • returns
         • purchase order history.

Clinical Pharmacy

Prescriptions placed through MEDITECH’s Electronic Prescribing pass immediately and seamlessly to the Clinical Pharmacy, MEDITECH’s central location for managing all medication orders (and a key player in  ensuring safe patient care). Here, Pharmacy staff can fulfill verified orders; process and dispense TTOs; control and procure inventory; and efficiently capture charges.Doctor in pharmacy

Inherent Clinical Decision Support helps Pharmacy staff to check unverified orders for adverse food and drug interactions, allergies, disease contraindications, redundant or duplicate orders, and dosage size during verification. Refills for TTOs can be denoted for a specific period of time, such as a 28-day schedule, and dispensed as outpatient scripts.

A bi-directional interface between Clinical Pharmacy and HL7-compliant dispensing machine vendors integrates MEDITECH’s Patient Administration System (PAS) with dispensing systems used within your Trust. Allergy, height/weight, and diagnosis information is transmitted over the ADT interface. Orders placed within MEDITECH (for medications stored in a dispensing machine) are sent via an HL7 interface to the Pharmacy Dispensing System, ensuring patient orders are available on the cabinets. Our profiling feature also allows you to remove medications for existing orders from the dispensing machine, automatically deducting them from inventory. Pharmacy discrepancy messages indicate when dispensing machine inventory levels do not match Pharmacy Supply Control inventory levels. Inventory messages for pocket loads and unloads also update inventory levels within MEDITECH’s Clinical Pharmacy once received from the dispensing machine console(s).

Verified inpatient medication orders automatically appear on MEDITECH’s electronic Medication Administration Record.  Bedside Verification can be used to safely administer prescriptions.

Pathology Information System

Streamline pathology workflow and decrease paperwork with MEDITECH’s Pathology Information System (PIS). From specimen collection to transfusion management, the PIS is designed for optimal productivity. Staff has access to multiple functions, patients, and specimens on a single screen—including results and reports—helping your organisation to improve patient safety while reducing costs. What’s more, with pathology data flowing to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) in real time, your staff always has the most up-to-date information.Microscope

Radiology Information System

Efficiently coordinate the exam process from registration through results reporting with MEDITECH’s Imaging and Therapeutic Services.

Designed specifically for radiology, mammography, and therapy departments, our Imaging and Therapeutic Services helps guide you through the entire examination process. Through roles-based desktops, your staff can schedule and record exams, track patient pathways, view images, and document results. And since Imaging and Therapeutic Services transmits exam statuses and results to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) in real time, your staff always has access to the most up-to-date information.

An array of tools helps your radiology and departmental staff to quickly and accurately report patient results. A comprehensive transcription system uses either standard word processing software, such as Microsoft Word®, or MEDITECH’s own text editor. Voice recognition capability is available via integration with Dragon software from Nuance. You can also improve results reporting with user-specific coded comments, digital dictation, and the ability to incorporate schematics, pictures, and digital photos into documentation.

With MEDITECH’s PACS interface suite, diagnostic images are readily available for viewing from the Electronic Patient Record.  By creating a cohesive clinical system with a two-way flow of data between your MEDITECH system and a wide range of other vendors’ PACS, consultants can view images whenever and wherever needed. And by presenting their findings more quickly, radiologists can effectively improve patient care.

In summary, here’s how your organisation can benefit from MEDITECH’s Imaging and Therapeutic Services:

 • Efficient coordination of patient care
 • Tracking of patient progress during exams
 • Access to the EPR directly from your Radiology Information System
 • Improved patient safety
 • Faster results reporting
 • Access to images via PACS integration.

Theatre Management
Theatre Management

Streamline the entire perioperative process with MEDITECH’s Theatre Management solution. From the ante-operative through the post-operative stages, clinicians have the tools they need to oversee all aspects of care, as well as a Theatre Big Board to monitor case progression. Inherent scheduling, materials management, clinical documentation, and dynamic reporting capabilities all enable you to manage surgical cases with maximum efficiency.

Consultants can place orders for pending surgeries directly from their Consultant Desktop; schedulers can then use the Theatre Management solution to book these surgeries. Theatre scheduling is fully integrated with MEDITECH’s Community Wide Scheduling, allowing for enterprise-wide conflict checking that helps minimise scheduling conflicts. Surgeon- and procedure-specific preference cards are automatically generated when a theatre case is booked, helping the streamline theatre stock control.

As a by-product of Theatre Management and Patient Administration System integration, documented surgical outcomes automatically update the RTT statuses for patient pathways. In addition, the Theatre Management solution contains Session Management functionality. Staff can update session statuses, assign anaesthetists to sessions, and capture session briefing notes.
