A Collaborative Solution

Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services from four main sites:• Burton-Upon-Trent Acute Hospital Services, which also includes an Accident and Emergency Department
• The Treatment Centre, a dedicated centre for day case surgery and treatments
• Samuel Jackson Community Hospital (Lichfield), which provides local services and includes a midwife-led maternity unit and 24/7 care for minor injuries
• Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital, (Tamworth) whose local services include an endoscopy unit and 24/7 treatment for minor injuries.
The Trust provides a wide range of services to a population of approximately 360,000 people across South Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, and North West Leicestershire. The number of patients cared for each year in the hospitals includes an impressive 47,000+ planned and emergency operations, more than 70,000 A&E attendances, and roughly 13,000 daycare procedures.
Burton Hospitals currently uses a full range of integrated MEDITECH applications, including Patient Administration System and Electronic Patient Record:
• Included in Burton Hospitals’ Patient Administration System portfolio are: Admissions, Bed Management, Interface to Patient Registration Kiosks, Document Management, Medical Records, Clinical Coding, Community-Wide Scheduling with Theatre Scheduling, Outpatients, 18 Week Referral to Treatment Pathway Tracking, and Choose and Book Integration.
• Included in Burton Hospitals’ Electronic Patient Record (EPR) portfolio are: Accident and Emergency, Patient Care and Patient Safety for Nursing and Maternity, Theatre Management, Consultant Care Manager, and Integrated Order Communications and Electronic Prescribing with Results Reporting. Each of the Electronic Patient Record applications listed above include roles-based access desktops, clinical documentation, clinical alerts/decision support, and ordering/prescribing.
• Included in Burton Hospitals’ Ancillary Departmental Solution Portfolio are: Pathology Information System, Radiology Information System with PACS Interface, and Clinical Pharmacy with Stock Control.
Burton Hospitals was an early advocate of Electronic Prescribing and the first hospital in the UK to implement MEDITECH's solution. Today, 100% of prescribing clinicians use Electronic Prescribing for medication ordering, supporting regulatory initiatives.
