Central Health strides toward EHR

Central Health Authority completes the merger of its IT systems, paving the way for improved care coordination.

Central Health Authority (Grands Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland) recently reached a major milestone, completing the consolidation of its two MEDITECH systems. At the same time, the health authority has also been undergoing an organization-wide standards project—an ambitious and nearly unprecedented undertaking that will help to improve care coordination for hundreds of patients.

“IT and clinical divisions implement big projects all the time, but the complexity of this one really takes the cake,” says Central Health Authority Director Robert Drover. “The entire Central Health staff deserves credit for this outstanding accomplishment.”

“With our consolidated system, we’re improving care coordination, data quality, and access to client information. Our clinicians are excited about being able to look at patients holistically, including all of their data from across the enterprise.”

According to Drover, the partnership between Central Health and MEDITECH has strengthened over the years, and especially during this latest project. “Removing our information silos, coupled with the benefits of MEDITECH’s Client Services restructuring, has allowed us to better align with our patients,” he says.

“Having a vision from the start is important, but actually seeing our system in action is amazing. This consolidation has taught me the strength of MEDITECH’s integration—an added value that truly enhances the end result.”

Nurse Leader Makes an Impact

Every organization needs a leader who understands the importance of change in improving the experience of both patients and providers. For CentralHealth Authority, that person has been Patricia Walsh, RN, and change management coordinator, who retired at the start of 2014.

“Pat has been pivotal in helping to define the health authority’s clinical workflow, combining her nursing experience with her knowledge of the MEDITECH system,” says Director Robert Drover. “She always found ways to ease our transitions to new processes.”

Please join us in wishing Pat well as she embarks on her new chapter.
