Introduction to MEDITECH Expanse EHR and Physician Advisor
This session will introduce MEDITECH Expanse and the READY Implementation plan. The concept of a Benefits Driven Implementation will be introduced and proven examples of this concept will be demonstrated. The Physician Programs at MEDITECH will also be discussed as well as the importance of the Clinical Leadership Preparedness Program. Physician Champions, Other Physician Roles and EHR Implementation Governance A presentation and educational session on the roles and responsibilities for physicians tasked as Champions/Sponsors in EHR projects. Discussion of champion/sponsor attributes, responsibilities, necessary authority, interaction with executive and project leaders and teams, other clinical leadership personnel. Also, other physician roles that are key for a successful EHR implementation will be presented (e.g., subject matter experts, trainers, etc.).
In addition, we will examine the definition, use and requirements for project governance and in particular those related to physicians in EHR projects. We will spend time reviewing an example of an effective governance structure and how that will align with your organization’s plans. Aligning Goals
Examination of the value the EHR brings, using practical exercises to align project goals and clinical visioning for all stakeholders. Evaluation of the concepts and tools for project management and change management, and the role of physicians in these efforts. Communication Strategies
Examination of communication requirements, venues and resources in EHR projects. Discussion of message crafting and emphasis, as well as physician-friendly and efficacious modalities, roles in project communication, and examples of formats. Workflow Analysis
This course will define Workflow Analysis and Defect Recognition as it relates to the EHR implementation. Key concepts and tools for effective definition of the current state and identification of opportunities for improvement in the transition state and future state of your system. In class exercises will examine the current state of one or more key physician workflows within your organization. Comparative Workflow
Examination of how physician workflow impacts and interacts with lab, radiology and medication administration. Discussion and concrete examples of how decision-making in future state workflow impacts various actors in a clinical process. Clinical Scenarios
Examination of the uses for clinical scenarios in EHR implementation projects; principles of scenario construction, scorecard and issues list construction; practical exercises in use and building of scenarios. Clinical Decision Support
Examination of the definition, design, construction, implementation and advantages of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) associated with EHR implementations. We will provide examples, using MEDITECH functionality, of how clinical decision support interventions can be incorporated into content design and workflows. Reporting of outcomes tied to CDS will also be covered. EHR Enabled Clinical Quality Improvement (eCQI) and Toolkits
During this course we will define Clinical Process Reengineering as it relates to the EHR implementation. We will examine some of the key concepts and tools for process improvement projects. Two “real-life” clinical process improvement projects will be demonstrated, detailing their success . Practical exercises will help the organization identify their own improvement projects. An eCQI workbook will be introduced. This workbook will assist organizations in implementing their own EHR related improvement project. Clinical Standard Content Strategies and Best Practice
During this session, we will review MEDITECH’s Standard Content Methodology and Governance. We will define the roles and responsibilities of physician stakeholders in all phases of organizational content development, build, usability, optimization and maintenance. Prepare for Content Delivery and Review. eCQI Workshop
This course will review the status of identified improvement projects and strategize for incorporation in the Go-LIVE and Optimization phases of the EHR Implementation. Physician Education and Go-LIVE Preparation Discussion of the modes and methods of physician training. Define the physician/clinician training plan, timeline, and competencies. Establish the Pre-LIVE and Go-LIVE resource allocation and support plan for physicians, as well as the governance surrounding feedback and change requests, during the Go-LIVE period.
Problem List Educational Video Series The Problem List Education Video Series consists of eight short videos which are designed to help healthcare organizations use the problem list accurately and in a meaningful way. These videos and associated exercises are meant to help physician leadership generate discussions within their organizations.
