ICD-10 Delay Changes Timeline

In a late-night session on March 31, the U.S. Senate voted in favor of delaying the ICD-10 implementation deadline for another year, pushing it back to October 2015. Bill HR 4302, signed by President Obama, focuses on physician Medicare payments and includes the provision to delay ICD-10 implementation.

There is mixed reaction to this delay, with a fair amount of feedback from the healthcare industry.

“MEDITECH is working hard to evaluate what this means to our customer base,” says MEDITECH Client Services Manager Richard Russell.

“In the weeks ahead, we’ll be encouraging customers to discuss their concerns with us. We are prepared to help them understand, plan, and execute these new timelines. Moreover, the additional time enables us to further enhance our software.”

MEDITECH will be updating its ICD-10 website and Best Practice documentation to reflect the timeline change. Customers should check back often for the latest information as they prepare for conversion to the new code set.
