Building a Physician Culture,
One Staff Member at a Time

March 19, 2014 - Did you know that MEDITECH employs over 20 practicing physicians on our Physician Consultant Team? Since 2011, we have been building a dynamic team of medical consultants as part of our Physician Outreach program.

The physician consultants are actively engaged in all departments here at MEDITECH, providing key insights and expertise into the development and implementation of our products, as well as lending on-site support to our customers. In addition to the Physician Consultant Team, MEDITECH partners with dozens of other physicians to ensure that our standard content represents all medical specialties. We also have a large team of Physician Liaisons who assist in marketing and sales situations.

Physicians have become an integral part of MEDITECH, influencing every aspect of our business as well as our culture. Our staff members are encouraged to reach out to the physician consultants to collaborate on projects. MEDITECH’s internal Staff Development team has also developed a number of education programs to infuse the physician’s perspective across the company, from our new hire orientation to roundtable discussions with the physicians.

MEDITECH Physician Consultant and Emergency Medicine Physician Larry Spector, MD, is actively involved in the staff education programs. He leads quarterly “Doing Your Part” seminars, which help staff to see beyond their day-to-day work and realize how everyone at MEDITECH, regardless of their position, plays an important part in the creation of safe healthcare technology.

“These programs aim to give MEDITECH staff a first-hand account of the physician’s end-user experience. By ‘sensitizing’ them to the clinical experience, our staff can see how their work impacts the care of real patients,” says Dr. Spector.

“We also share true-to-life clinical scenarios that show how software can affect the workflow of a hospital and benefit the end patient. MEDITECHers leave these sessions feeling more connected, with increased passion and a desire to go above and beyond.”

There are even more physician and staff engagement programs in store for 2014, as MEDITECH continues to weave the diverse expertise of our physician employees into the fabric of our strategic direction and daily operations. Stay tuned to the Physician Connection webpage for updates on all our programs.
