Patient Safety: Our Number One Priority

MEDITECH's mission is to provide software that enables physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to orchestrate and deliver patient care in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Patient safety is our driving force—reflected in our proactive approach to informing customers of potential Patient Safety issues and Commonly Submitted Issues (CSIs). Here, we share insight into our Priority Event process.

  • Detect: If the concern is confirmed to be a Patient Safety issue, it is brought to the Dedicated Patient Safety Team via the Priority Event process—ensuring the appropriate MEDITECH resources are involved in every phase.
  • Review: During this process, we submit the issue to Development and begin a formal Priority Event review assessing the following: severity based on the potential degree of harm, the likelihood of the issue to occur in the LIVE environment under normal usage, and the degree of detectability.
  • Communicate: If your facility is potentially impacted, details are provided via task communication to the associated product(s) contacts and your organization's Patient Safety Contact. As a result, it’s imperative to keep MEDITECH informed of the appropriate contacts at your facility.
  • Notify: We recognize you periodically receive notifications from various applications which may pertain to functionality you have not yet implemented. However, we inform you of these important code changes in case your facility plans to utilize this functionality in the future.
  • Deliver: Deployment of the necessary code changes is managed through the Priority Event notification task. Maintaining a flexible and dynamic delivery process is important to us, and we need your organization's support to ensure the changes are readily tested and moved to your LIVE system as soon as possible.
  • Analyze: MEDITECH performs root cause analysis of all Priority Events—learning from any missteps, educating internally based on our findings, and providing corrective and preventative action plans.

Our ongoing goal is to provide high quality software and ensure your organization delivers safe patient care. As a result, we encourage you and your clinical quality leadership team to regularly review potential Patient Safety issues on your issue listing page on MEDITECH.com. Likewise, your input is essential in helping us to refine and improve our processes. We’re listening, acting, and delivering.
