April 4, 2014 - Since Castle Rock Adventist Hospital (Castle Rock, CO) opened its doors in August 2013, it has earned a reputation for providing advanced care with a focus on improving the patient experience.
From their community garden, to original art on the walls, to their health-focused restaurant, and Free Cycle exercise initiative--Centura Health’s newest member offers a wide variety of programs to facilitate preventative care, as well as physical and spiritual wellness.
In addition to these offerings, Castle Rock has also been a 100% electronic hospital since its opening. Using MEDITECH’s EHR for seamless, interoperable care delivery positioned the facility for HIMSS Stage 7 from the beginning.
“Our facility was designed for a paperless world. For patients to receive the best care, we need the accurate, accessible data that an EHR provides,” explains Michael Selvage, chief nursing officer.
“We started out with the best technology and clinicians from across the country to get us off the ground. It certainly paid off; four months after opening, we had all the data we needed to attest for Stage 7.”
CPOE and barcode scanning integration are among the most important system features for Castle Rock’s clinical teams. “We’re pioneering new ways to use IT for improving care, such as scanning barcodes for breast milk. I’m proud to say that Castle Rock was the first Centura site to accomplish this,” says CNIO Sharon Kirby, RN.
“We feel good about creating a safe environment for our patients, by using our EHR to verify that we are giving the right patients the right medicine, at the right time. That’s really what our commitment to technology is all about--always doing the right thing for our patients.”
