MEDITECH Launches New CAUTI Prevention EHR Toolkit

September 9, 2015 - Did you know that MEDITECH’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) supports your organization in the prevention and early detection of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs)? Check out our CAUTI Prevention Toolkit, a new implementation toolkit for MAGIC, Client/Server, and 6.x customers with best practice workflows and setup instructions, aligned with industry-standard recommendations and customer experiences, for reducing this most commonly reported hospital-acquired condition (HAC).

More than 560,000 patients each year are affected by CAUTIs, urinary tract infections caused by instrumentation of the urinary tract. Due to its high cost and prevalence, reducing CAUTI rates has become a national priority. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program, established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, financially incentivizes hospitals to decrease the rate of reasonably preventable HACs, including CAUTIs. According to CMS data, over 724 hospitals will see a one percent reduction in Medicare payments in Fiscal Year 2015 as a result of their overall HAC performance.

Aligning with recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Nurse Association (ANA), MEDITECH’s experience and outcome-based CAUTI Prevention Toolkit supports your organization in the prevention and early detection of CAUTI events by providing physicians, nurses, and quality management staff with immediate access to catheter data, guidance, and clinical decision support notifications.

MEDITECH is committed to helping your organization achieve clinical and operational excellence. Be sure to visit our EHR Excellence webpage regularly for additional guidance, best practices, and educational materials on quality measurements. If you missed our educational seminars on how to use the CAUTI Prevention Toolkit to improve quality and operational outcomes, video recordings for each platform will be available soon.
