Nurse Advisory Committee Discusses Acuity and Disease Registries

July 1, 2015 - On June 17, the Nurse Advisory Committee (NAC) gathered for their annual in-person meeting. The committee meeting was held in conjunction with the 2015 Nurse and Home Care Forum at the new MEDITECH conference center in Foxborough, MA and was moderated by Cathy Turner, RN, associate vice president, and the head of the MEDITECH nursing informatics program.

"This marks the sixteenth year of MEDITECH’s Nurse Informatics Program,” said Turner. “Having you all here at the forum is the highlight of my year. We appreciate how generously you come together to share your successes and challenges with each other at this event.”

As part of the all-day session, committee members listened and participated in presentations on various topics that included nursing acuity, clinical reconciliation, and preparation for Stage 3 of Meaningful Use. Dr. William Van Ness, a MEDITECH physician consultant, also presented on the impact that disease registries and Accountable Care Organizations will have on the future of healthcare.

Turner introduced a new MEDITECH program which is just getting underway now. “As the largest employee demographic in healthcare today, nurses play a critical role in the story of patient care,” Turner explained. “This year we are introducing a brand new Nursing Liaison Program.” The objective of the liaison program will be to incorporate direct nursing experience into MEDITECH’s future sales efforts for the Nurse and Patient Care Solutions.
